Flier Appeared in Southern Mongolia, Calling for Independence, People Arrested
According to information received by IMPP recently, amidst the extravagant celebration of the 60-year anniversary of "Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region" by the Chinese government glossing over its 60 years of destruction of Southern Mongolia, fliers advocating independence for the region appeared on the streets of Hohhot, capital city of Southern Mongolia, in early August. According to unconfirmed information, several people were arrested in connection with the flier. Any specifics as to the number of people arrested, their names and current status are still unknown.
The organization which created and distributed the flier called itself "Southern Mongolian National Independence League". The distributed flier of which a copy was obtained by IMPP, claims that the League was established on July 21, 2007 and the group will struggle for "world peace, freedom and democracy" and its final goal is to "be separated from the colonial rule of China and achieve an independent country where the people truly manage their own state affairs."
The flier states that the Mongols have always had their own state separate from China and in fact no part of Mongolia had ever been part of China except from the 60 years of occupation of Southern Mongolia by Communist China. During the last six decades, according to the flier, the Chinese colonialists deployed heavy army onto the soils of Mongols, cultivated grasslands to destroy natural ecology, robbed the Mongol region off of its resources and practiced a policy to force the Mongols to be assimilated into Chinese culture. Currently, the flier says, Southern Mongolian territory is full of Chinese citizens, and the Chinese are working to separate Southern Mongolian territories by eliminating traditional Mongolian administrative units and making parts of the region to belong to the neighboring Chinese provinces. "The instant moment of grave danger of Southern Mongolia facing distinction," the flier states, "is also a moment for Southern Mongolians to get up and resolve the life and death issue of our Nation and the Motherland."
Inner Mongolia People’s Party is concerned with the fate of the people who were arrested in relation to the flier while we are also proud of as well as encouraged by our brothers and sisters inside the motherland for their brave actions and words.
We will continually follow up on the development and will update any latest information obtained.
